As part of our ongoing efforts to build and strengthen the ECR Community, the ECR Committee is excited to announce a new ECR Autumn Forum which has been scheduled ahead of the usual ECR Forum which is held in conjunction with the Annual Assembly.

Masterclass: Flow Modelling for Offshore Wind Turbine Loading and Farm Yield

The event will precede the Masterclass on Flow Modelling for Offshore Wind Turbine Loading and Farm Yield taking place on Tuesday 29 October to Wednesday 30 October in Manchester. Please note that separate registration is required for the Masterclass, which includes specialist access to the University of Manchester Computing Facility and delves into on fluid-mechanics-based models, in contrast to the low computational cost tools typically used for engineering design. The Supergen ORE Hub ECR Community aims to connect ECRs, creating a diverse and supportive community that nurtures the next generation of ORE research leaders. The Forum provides a valuable opportunity for ECRs to gather, share their research and network with peers. 

The Preliminary Forum Programme will include:

  • Presentations on current challenges by invited experts form the ORE industry.
  • Collaboration activities with an emphasis on pathways to demonstrating impact from research.
  • Training on navigating interviews for industrial collaborations and fellowships and grants.
  • An opportunity to share research through poster presentations.
  • Plenty of opportunities to network including a dinner on the first night.

Optional poster presentation

As part of this Forum, ECRs are encouraged to showcase their research in a poster presentation. If you would like to participate, please provide a brief description of the research activities you will present (max. 300 words) on the registration form. If you prefer more time to consider this, you can send the description to supergenorehub@plymouth.ac.uk at a later date (must be received by 12 noon Friday 18 October 2024).

Forum Refreshments and Evening Dinner

Lunch is included on the first day along with refreshments throughout the Forum. Please note the evening dinner on the first night is optional and will be at the individual's expense. Please indicate when registering if you are interested in joining the evening dinner (we anticipate the cost to be max. £40pp not inclusive of drinks).

Eligibility

To join the ECR Forum, participants must fall into one of the following categories:

  • Post Doctoral Researcher Assistants (PDRAs).
  • Early career Academic Staff within the first three years of their academic appointment.
  • PhD Students within 12 months of completion who are exploring a future career in the ORE sector.
  • If you do not fit one of these categories, please select 'other' on the registration form and provide further details.
